North West is standing by her distinctive fashion choices after facing online criticism, with the teenager and her mother, Kim Kardashian, addressing the controversy during a recent TikTok livestream.
The 13-year-old rapper responded directly to people describing her appearance as “demonic,” urging viewers not to judge her based on the way she dresses.
“Stop saying I’m demonic. No, I’m not. Just because I like to dress this way, don’t judge a book by its cover,” North said, according to a screen recording of the livestream shared on X.
Kardashian, 45, suggested that North’s black grills and piercings might be behind the comments. However, North questioned why those fashion choices would be associated with anything demonic.
“I don’t know why you guys should put that with demonic because I don’t get that,” she said. Kardashian then asked whether the criticism bothered her daughter.
North Explains the Meaning Behind Her All-White Performance Look
During the livestream, North also discussed the white “gothic Lolita outfit” she wore for her first headlining performance at The Vic Theatre in Chicago in September.
She explained that she deliberately chose an angelic look to communicate a message about her beliefs and how she sees herself.
“I was like, if I’m gonna do my first show ever, I gotta come in like an angel in all white,” North said. “You guys know I’m not on that demon stuff. I believe in Jesus. That’s how I came to show you guys I’m actually a light, not dark.”
Kardashian expressed surprise at the symbolism behind the outfit before reflecting on how quickly people can form narratives about someone’s life without knowing the full story.
She described it as “kind of crazy” when people make assumptions that are the opposite of reality.
Kim Kardashian Says North’s Style Started Long Before the Divorce
In a separate clip shared on X, Kardashian defended her daughter’s aesthetic, explaining that North had shown an interest in piercings from a very young age.
“When she was a baby, dropping her off at school, all she wanted was her septum pierced and her eyebrow pierced,” the SKIMS founder said. She recalled North wearing fake piercings, including a double-brow look, while attending pre-kindergarten.
North also rejected suggestions that her appearance was influenced by her parents’ separation.
“So you guys can’t say, where did the style [come from], is this style from the divorce? No, queen,” she said.
Kardashian and North’s father, Kanye West, finalized their divorce in 2022. The former couple also share three other children: sons Saint, 10, and Psalm, 7, and daughter Chicago, 8.
North West Says Fashion Helps Her Express Herself

North’s appearance has repeatedly sparked online discussion over the past year, with attention focused on her piercings and body modifications, blue hair and fake tattoos.
But in a cover story for Dazed released in August, North made clear that self-expression through fashion and beauty remains important to her.
“Everyone’s in love with boys, vaping and doing all kinds of bad stuff,” she said. “All I want is blue hair and piercings.”
She also explained that piercings help her feel more like herself. Although she has experimented with different styles, North revealed that there are still limits set by her parents.
“I really want to get my bridge pierced, but I’m not allowed,” she said.
As the online conversation around her appearance continues, North is making her position clear: her fashion choices are a form of self-expression, not a reflection of the assumptions others make about her.
