Lainey Wilson turned her iHeartRadio Music Festival set into a heartfelt tribute to one of her biggest heroes, Dolly Parton.

Taking the stage at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sept. 19, Wilson revealed that she had written a song especially for the country legend, calling Dolly “one of my dearest friends” and “the lady that I look to for everything.”

Wilson introduced “WWDD” by reflecting on how much Dolly had influenced her long before they became friends. She said she admired everything from Dolly’s style and sense of humor to her personality and business instincts, describing her as a true “badass business woman.”

But Wilson said Dolly’s kindness was what made the biggest impression on her.

“She treated people with love,” Wilson said, adding that Dolly would “give you the shirt off her back.” After getting to know her personally, Wilson said the experience completely lived up to the admiration she had always felt from afar.

“They say ‘never meet your heroes?’ But that did not count with Dolly Parton. She was better than I could have ever imagined,” she said.

Wilson then introduced “WWDD,” joking about the title before asking the crowd the question behind it: “What would Dolly do?”

As she performed, a montage of Dolly’s photos appeared on the screen behind her, adding another emotional layer to the tribute.

Wilson kept the celebration going after “WWDD,” immediately launching into Dolly’s iconic “9 to 5,” the title track from the 1980 film.

The tribute ended on a joyful note, with Wilson telling the crowd, “That was fun. I knew we would get along just fine.”
