Queen Latifah Praises Both Singers’ Voices And Stage Presence Before Choosing A Winner In One Of ‘The Voice’s’ Standout Battles

“I’m so proud of this performance,” Queen Latifah told the competitors.

BigCountry and Luke Cope faced off in their Battle Round on The Voice, each determined to deliver a standout performance and keep their shot at winning the competition alive.

The pair took on “Tennessee Whiskey,” a country favorite recorded by artists including Chris Stapleton, George Jones and David Allan Coe. Both singers brought powerful vocals and plenty of energy to the stage.

Luke knew he would need to rise to the challenge of matching BigCountry’s commanding stage presence. He was determined to dig deep, make his mark and prove he deserved to advance.

BigCountry, meanwhile, entered the battle with confidence, making his competitive mindset clear. “ [I] ain’t here to play no games. I have everything that it takes to win this battle.”

Host Carson Daly kicked off the battle after BigCountry and Luke Cope shook hands and wished each other luck. The two singers then took their positions onstage, ready to perform in front of their coach, Queen Latifah.

BigCountry opened with his deep, resonant baritone, establishing the mood for the country classic. As the performance continued, the singers’ contrasting vocal styles worked well together, with their shared sections standing out as highlights. Their individual moments also gave each contestant an opportunity to showcase his abilities and make a case for moving forward.

On The Voice, strong vocals alone are not always enough to secure a win. Contestants must also demonstrate the stage presence and performance skills needed to stand out in the music industry. As the coaches shared their thoughts on the battle, one singer appeared to have made a more convincing impression in that regard.

Although neither contestant was on Team Riley Green, the country star was clearly comfortable with their song choice. Green had shown interest in BigCountry from the beginning, turning his chair during the singer’s Blind Audition before BigCountry ultimately joined Queen Latifah’s team.

Green praised BigCountry’s interpretation of the challenging song, saying, “It’s first off a tough song to tackle. Man, just your voice felt right on it. I knew where you were going with it. Everything about it was great, man. So awesome performance.”

He also had plenty of compliments for Luke Cope, describing his high harmonies as “perfect” and calling his overall delivery “great.”

“You did some really unique things with your voice. So I guess if I had to lean one way or the other, Luke, I thought that was really unique what you did. So anyway, great performance both y’all.”

Kelly Clarkson also weighed in, highlighting the combination of soul and rock influences she heard in both singers. Despite their different vocal approaches, she felt the styles came together effectively.

“Way to go. That was pretty seamless and cool,” Clarkson said before offering more detailed feedback.

She praised the way the two contestants shared the spotlight, pointing out that both singers delivered impressive harmonies and explored higher notes throughout the performance.

“Luke, I was hearing these incredible harmonies, but also BigCountry, you went up high on some of those as well because I was like, wait, which one is that? And then I was leaning in. So I think that you both did a really great job too of evening it out, making sure everybody had their time to shine in it while collaborating. So she’s going to do good either way.”

Adam Levine recalled turning his chair for both BigCountry and Luke Cope during their Blind Auditions, only to lose both singers to Team Queen. Still, he remembered what had made each contestant stand out, praising BigCountry’s “big personality” and Luke’s “killer” voice.

Levine was particularly impressed by how well their voices blended during the Battle Round, describing their harmonies as “pretty magical” when they sang in sync.

“You sounded best in this song when you guys sang together. I mean, it was pretty magical, the harmonies that you guys did when you were really in sync. If I’m choosing, I think just because the show does start to become about this other element that’s not just about the voice, it’s about the person and the personality. I don’t know how I could ever part with BigCountry just because he’s got so much of that going on. But Luke, I mean, you were right there with him. You did a great job also.”

Queen Latifah shared his praise, telling the two singers that they “rocked it” and “sounded amazing together.”

She also reflected on Luke’s emotional Blind Audition, admitting she had wondered whether he could channel those feelings into his singing during the competition.

“I felt like Luke, you were so emotional in the blind audition. I wondered if you could get through all that emotion and find the voice and you found it. You found it. I felt like you looked at me a few times. I was like, ‘Ooh, there he is. That’s the magic.’”

Turning to BigCountry, Queen praised his commitment and commanding presence, emphasizing the qualities that made him a strong contender.

“BigCountry, you know how to commit to something and that’s important in a competition like this. Your voice is big, your performance is big, your heart is big,” she pointed out.

Although Queen Latifah praised Luke Cope’s performance and told him she was “proud” of what he had delivered, she ultimately chose BigCountry as the winner of the Battle Round.

“Luke improved by leaps and bounds, but Big Country is a presence, a force to be reckoned with. So comfortable, so confident, full of energy and life and voice and ability. He’s just been someone that everybody has loved from the beginning,” the music icon said.

With the decision made, Luke Cope’s journey on The Voice has come to an end, while BigCountry advances to the next stage, Cuts Week, which begins November 2.

The Battles continue next week as the show moves to its regular Monday-night schedule. The two-hour episode airs at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and will be available to stream on Peacock the following day.
