Choosing a winner after a Battle performance is never an easy task for the coaches on The Voice. First-time coach Riley Green has discovered just how challenging those decisions can be during Season 30.

On Monday (October 19), Voice viewers watched two of Riley’s standout team members, Allie Rae and Harmony McKee, face off in a Battle.

15-year-old Allie Rae first caught the coaches’ attention with her rendition of Alannah Myles’ “Black Velvet.” Riley Green turned his chair immediately, with Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah following suit. However, Riley had used his “First In” button, which overruled the other coaches and secured Allie Rae a spot on his team automatically.

Harmony McKee, 19, usually performs music outside the country genre, but chose Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder & Lead” for her Voice audition. Her performance prompted Riley and Adam Levine to turn their chairs, and she ultimately became a member of Team Riley.

Before diving into their Battle, take another look at Allie Rae and Harmony’s auditions in the videos below.

When it was time for their Voice Battle, Allie Rae and Harmony delivered a hauntingly beautiful version of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.” The song allowed both singers to demonstrate their vocal range, impressing the coaches with their performances.

Some of the most memorable moments came as the two sang together, blending their voices in perfect harmony. Their performance earned a well-deserved standing ovation from Riley Green, who now faced a tough decision.

Who Did Riley Green Choose As The Winner In The Battle Between Allie Rae And Harmony McKee On The Voice?

Kelly Clarkson was the first coach to share her thoughts following the Battle. She began by praising Harmony, telling her, “You have the most beautiful resonance. It’s such a beautiful gift you have.”

She then turned her attention to Allie Rae, complimenting her by saying, “For 15 years old, you have a really rad style.” Kelly told Riley Green that she would be inclined to choose Allie Rae as the winner.

Adam Levine shared the same opinion, saying he would also pick Allie Rae. Queen Latifah praised Allie Rae’s “gorgeous” high notes and highlighted Harmony’s vocal stamina, though she stopped short of revealing which singer she would select.

When Riley finally had his say, he admitted that choosing between the two would be particularly difficult. “This is one that I’ve both been looking forward to quite a bit, and also dreading a little bit,” he said.

He then explained what stood out to him about each contestant, beginning with Allie Rae:

“You’re a huge talent for any age, but I think that there’s something so interesting about your voice and how you present certain notes and how you pocket things. I think you’ve got a really great future.”

Riley then praised Harmony as “One of the most talented vocalists on the show.” He pointed out how her voice “completely filled the room,” describing her performance as “awesome” overall.

At last, Riley faced the decision he had been dreading: naming the Battle winner. He explained that the choice was especially difficult because he felt the two singers were “completely neck-and-neck” with each other.

Ultimately, Riley named Allie Rae the winner.

During a sit-down interview after the performance, Riley described the showdown as “one of my favorite battles.” He also explained why he decided to keep Allie Rae on his team:

“She’s who I used my ‘First In’ on, I believed in her from the get-go. And I think she’s got a really great chance to go a long way on the show.”

Kelly supported his decision, telling Riley after the singers had left the stage, “That little girl, she could win.”
