Luke Bryan is standing by his son Bo as the 18-year-old prepares for surgery following a collarbone fracture sustained during a high school football game. The country star shared a glimpse of the family’s difficult day on October 19, posting a video of himself, his wife Caroline and Bo on their way to the hospital.
“Well, it’s us. Going for surgery,” Bryan said in the Instagram video, turning the camera toward his son, who was sitting beside him with his arm in a sling. Caroline was also in the car, appearing behind her husband and asking who he was talking to. The brief family moment offered a candid look at the days following Bo’s injury.
Caroline Bryan Shares a Candid Hospital Update
Caroline also documented the family’s hospital visit on Instagram, sharing a photo of Bo wearing a hospital gown in an examination room. She stood alongside her son and husband, who appeared to be making a playful face for the camera.
“Not the best day for Bo, or our family, but he’ll be back!!!! Dang collarbone…and of course Luke can’t take a serious picture!” she wrote in the caption.
Despite the stressful circumstances, Caroline’s post conveyed the family’s determination to support Bo through his recovery. Bryan’s lighthearted expression also provided a moment of humor during an otherwise difficult day.
What Happened to Luke Bryan’s Son?
Bo, whose full name is Thomas “Bo” Boyer Bryan, injured himself on Friday, October 16, during a game between Battle Ground Academy and Pope John Paul II High School in Tennessee.
According to The Tennessean, the teenager was sacked during the game and landed on his right shoulder. Two players fell on him during the play.
Medical personnel and athletic trainers attended to Bo, placing his arm in a sling and wrapping his shoulder. He remained on the sidelines for the rest of the game.
The following day, Bo confirmed the injury in an Instagram Stories post, writing, “Broke my collarbone last night.”
He also thanked those who had reached out with messages of support, adding, “Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We will be back.”
Speaking to reporters after the game, Bo recalled initially thinking the impact had caused only a minor injury.
“I thought it was just a stinger when I hit the ground,” he said. “Once I got up I knew something was wrong. When I got to the sideline, I really knew something was wrong.”

A Setback for the Young Quarterback
Bo is the starting quarterback for Battle Ground Academy and is considered one of the top high school quarterbacks in the region. Before his injury, he had recorded 2,006 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and three interceptions.
His absence presents a challenge for the team as it determines how to move forward. Head coach Bobby Bentley acknowledged the uncertainty after the game.
“I don’t know what we’re looking at yet,” Bentley told The Tennessean. “We’ll have to figure this thing out. That’s the challenge for us as a team and as coaches. What do we do? How do we do it? We’re going to figure it out.”
Inside Luke Bryan’s Family

Luke, 50, and Caroline share two sons: Bo and Tatum “Tate” Christopher, who was born in 2010.
The couple also took in Bryan’s nephew, Til, and nieces, Jordan and Kris, following the deaths of their parents. Bryan’s sister, Kelly, died in 2007, and the children’s father, Ben Cheshire, died seven years later.
Bryan has previously spoken proudly about Bo’s football career. In September, following another high school matchup, the singer told USA Today High School Sports that he was “super impressed” with his son’s performance.
As Bo prepares for surgery, both Luke and Caroline have shared messages of support and optimism. While the injury marks a difficult moment for the young quarterback and his team, his family is firmly behind him as he begins the next stage of his recovery.
