Kelly Clarkson Calls 13-Year-Old Brianna Cameron’s ‘The Voice’ Battle Performance “Magical” As Ariana DeBose Sees A Young Tina Turner

Just 13 years old, Brianna Cameron is making a strong impression on The Voice. In the Season 30 Battle Round, Kelly Clarkson matched the young singer with Saade for a performance of Duffy’s hit “Mercy.”

Ariana DeBose, who serves as an advisor to Team Kelly, was quick to recognize Cameron’s star quality, describing her as a “baby Tina Turner.” Clarkson also had plenty of praise for Saade, complimenting the singer’s “cool sound” and calling it “beautiful and mystic.”

During rehearsals, Clarkson and DeBose worked with both contestants on refining their timing and dialing back their vocal flourishes.

Both performers showed they could take the feedback on board. Cameron, in particular, has already gained considerable experience for someone her age, including a role on Broadway and a guest-starring appearance on Queen Latifah’s show, The Equalizer.

Their preparation paid off, with Adam Levine describing the performance as “really fun.”

The Maroon 5 frontman was especially amazed by Cameron’s abilities, commenting, “It’s bonkers what people can do at age.” As for Saade, Levine pointed out that she made a mistake but managed to recover well.

Queen Latifah was next to share her thoughts, praising the energy both singers brought to the stage. Although she also admired Saade’s stage presence, the coach ultimately favored the young contestant.

“I don’t even know how you perform a song like this with that kind of depth,” she marveled.

Riley Green also commended the pair for taking on such a challenging song, admitting he had “a lot of fun” watching their performance.

The final decision rested with Clarkson, who felt the two singers had “locked in” throughout their performance. She praised Saade for staying composed rather than allowing one imperfect moment to affect the entire song. Ultimately, however, Cameron’s “insane” vocals proved decisive.

After announcing her choice, Clarkson explained her decision to the cameras. “She gets better on stage and under the pressure and under the lights,” Clarkson told the cameras after she made her decision. “She honestly just exudes so much joy… It’s magical to watch and it’s inspiring, honestly.”

Clarkson also made sure Saade knew that her journey wasn’t over, offering reassurance to the eliminated contestant with a promise: “We’ll talk soon.”

The Voice airs Mondays on NBC.
