Madonna is celebrating her eldest daughter’s milestone birthday with a deeply personal tribute that looks back on their journey together, from Lourdes Leon’s dramatic birth to their evolving relationship as mother and daughter.
On Wednesday, Oct. 14, the pop icon, 68, marked Lourdes’ 30th birthday by sharing a series of throwback photos and videos on Instagram. The collection captured Lourdes at different stages of her life, from childhood to adulthood, including moments of her singing.
“Happy Birthday My Lolita!” Madonna began her message.
“You came to me in a Dream. A fever dream. A Dream called Life. If I tried to write it all down, I would cry a river of tears,” she continued.
The singer also recalled the difficult circumstances surrounding Lourdes’ birth. After 18 hours of labor, complications arose when Lourdes’ heartbeat began slowing down, making an emergency C-section necessary.
“Your chin was tilted up in my birth canal, you were looking for the stars you were stuck,” Madonna wrote, describing the experience.
She also remembered the media attention surrounding the birth, including helicopters and news crews gathering above the hospital in East Los Angeles.
“Your birth was dramatic. Like our lives,” she added.

Madonna Calls Her Bond with Lourdes “Biblical”
Madonna’s tribute went beyond childhood memories, reflecting on the connection she shares with her daughter.
The singer, who welcomed Lourdes with her then-boyfriend, fitness trainer Carlos Leon, on Oct. 14, 1996, described their relationship as “Biblical.”
When she asks God to explain their connection, Madonna wrote, “He tells me- Look in the mirror!”
“We are Two side sides of the same coin. If what we risk reveals what we value then I would risk it all on you,” she added.
She closed her message with a series of loving reminders, encouraging Lourdes to hold on to her identity, dreams and roots.
“Never forget who you are- Little Star, shining brighter than all the stars in the sky,” Madonna wrote. “Never forget how to Dream Butterfly. Never forget where you come from. From Love.”
The reference to “Little Star” holds special meaning for the pair. Madonna wrote the song for Lourdes and included it on her 1998 album Ray of Light.
Lourdes Leon Has Built Her Own Career
Although she grew up with one of the world’s most recognizable pop stars as her mother, Lourdes has carved out her own path in fashion and music.
The model has worked with brands including Savage X Fenty, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Swarovski and Mugler. She has also appeared in publications such as Vogue and Vanity Fair.
Lourdes launched her music career in August 2022 with the release of her debut single, “Lock&Key,” under the name Lolahol.
She has also spoken openly about the complexities of growing up with Madonna as a mother. In a 2021 interview with Interview magazine, Lourdes reflected on the ways her mother influenced her, particularly as she gained a deeper understanding of female empowerment.
“She’s probably the hardest worker I’ve ever seen,” Lourdes said. “I didn’t inherit that, unfortunately. I inherited her control issues, but not her work ethic!”

Mother and Daughter Turn Their Relationship into Music
More recently, Madonna and Lourdes have explored their relationship through a creative collaboration.
In June 2026, Madonna revealed that Lourdes had approached her with the idea of writing a song together as a way to help heal their relationship.
“She approached me about writing a song together as a way to heal our relationship,” Madonna said.
The result was “The Test,” a track on Madonna’s album Confession II, released in July 2026. The song features the mother and daughter sharing their perspectives on their relationship and the experience of growing up in the public eye.
As Lourdes celebrates her 30th birthday, Madonna’s tribute offers a rare glimpse into a bond shaped by shared memories, personal challenges and a continuing journey toward understanding one another.
