Taylor Swift once went to extraordinary lengths to bring Nelly onstage during her Speak Now tour — including sending a private jet and delivering $50,000 in one of the most unexpected ways imaginable: inside a McDonald’s bag.
The rapper recently revisited the hilarious story during an appearance on The Breakfast Club alongside his wife, Ashanti. Looking back on their unexpected collaboration in 2011, Nelly revealed that he was so amused by Swift’s unusual payment request that he would have happily performed with her for free.

How Taylor Swift Recruited Nelly for Her Speak Now Tour
The story began with an unexpected phone call from Swift, who was 21 at the time. Nelly, now 51, recalled that the singer reached out one evening while he was in St. Louis, explaining that she and her friends had been practicing a dance routine to his hit song “Hot in Herre.”
Swift then asked whether he would be willing to join her for a performance in Houston. Although she admitted that her budget was limited, she offered to arrange a private jet, accommodation and $50,000 for his appearance.
Nelly remembered responding with a rather unusual request: he wanted the money delivered in a McDonald’s bag.
Swift apparently had no problem accommodating him. She sent a G5 private jet to collect Nelly and his children in St. Louis before flying them to Houston. Once they arrived, her father and their mutual friend Robert came out to greet him — carrying the promised McDonald’s bag containing $50,000.
The rapper recalled the entire arrangement with amusement, particularly the moment he received the money in such an unexpected package.
Although Nelly never actually got to see the dance routine Swift and her friends had prepared for “Hot in Herre,” the two artists did share the stage to perform his song “Just a Dream.”
For Nelly, the experience was memorable not simply because of the generous payment, but also because of the playful and spontaneous way Swift made the collaboration happen.

Nelly and Taylor Swift Continued Their Musical Connection
Their collaboration in Houston was far from the last time Nelly joined Swift onstage.
In 2013, he made a surprise appearance during her Red Tour in St. Louis, performing “Hey Porsche.” Two years later, the pair reunited during the 1989 World Tour, once again in St. Louis, where Nelly performed “Hot in Herre” alongside Swift and the members of HAIM. He also joined the show for “The Fix.”
Their repeated collaborations reflected a friendship that had developed well beyond their shared performances.
Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2015, Nelly explained that the two had originally met through a mutual friend. He described Swift as being like a little sister and said she could call on him whenever she needed something.
He also expressed enormous admiration for her musical future, predicting that she could eventually become one of the five greatest female artists of all time.

Nelly and Ashanti Recently Attended Taylor Swift’s Wedding
Nelly and his wife, Ashanti, have maintained their connection with Swift over the years. The couple attended her wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce in New York City on July 3.
Ashanti later shared her impressions of the celebration during an appearance on Good Day New York, describing the setting as beautiful and magical, with an interior that resembled a real garden.
The couple are currently promoting the second season of their Peacock reality series, Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together, which is scheduled to begin streaming on November 19.
Meanwhile, Nelly’s latest recollection offers another glimpse into his longstanding friendship with Swift — one that began with an unexpected phone call, a private jet and a McDonald’s bag filled with $50,000.
