Queen Latifah may have discovered a new pre-performance ritual on The Voice: taking off her jewelry before her team’s Artists hit the stage.
The show’s Season 30 Battles concluded on October 26, delivering a standout showdown between Mia Knight and Sophia Liano. The two singers took on “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman, and both delivered powerful vocals that seemed to leave the Coaches stunned. By the halfway point, Kelly Clarkson had already jumped out of her Coach chair in disbelief.
Queen Latifah was just as caught up in the moment. As Knight and Liano belted out the song, the Coach became so swept up in their performance that a stone popped out of her ring. In the end, she chose Knight to move forward to Cut Week, but the unexpected jewelry mishap added another memorable moment to an already impressive Battle.
Queen Latifah’s The Voice Battle Reaction Gets So Intense, She Breaks Her Ring
The Battle concluded with one final, stunning note of harmony, leaving the Coaches eager to share their reactions. Riley Green and Adam Levine both described the performance as “shocking,” while Kelly Clarkson reminded Mia Knight and Sophia Liano that they had every reason to be proud of what they had achieved on national television.
Queen Latifah, meanwhile, had a rather unusual complaint for the two singers. The Coach playfully blamed them for damaging one of her rings, while making it clear that Knight’s impressive vocal range and delicate vibrato had left her particularly amazed.
“What you just did out there? We are all better for it. You got Kelly out that chair,” Queen explained.
“I literally had to take my ring off because I cracked the stone on here on one of those notes,” she revealed. “I was like, ‘What?!’ So you owe me a ring, but I think you can run me that by winning this show.”
It’s certainly an unusual milestone for The Voice. Knight and Liano delivered a performance so powerful that Queen Latifah ended up with a broken ring simply from getting caught up in the moment. Now, Knight has an extra reason to keep pushing forward: her Coach is jokingly expecting her to make it all the way to the top.
After a difficult decision, Queen Latifah ultimately chose Mia Knight to advance in the competition, bringing her Battle against Sophia Liano to a close.
Speaking with Deepest Dream, the 16-year-old singer reflected on what it meant to have Queen as her Coach during Season 30 of The Voice. Knight said the experience was especially meaningful because of the confidence Queen showed in her.
“That whole experience was just great because Queen Latifah, I saw that she had so much faith in me,” the 16-year-old explained. “We’re both from Jersey, and she’s just had such a successful career and I look up to her. She’s a big role model and inspiration to me because she’s been doing kind of the similar things that I’ve been doing [at] my age. She’s built herself into this big star and that’s what I aspire to me. And she’s very versatile.”
The admiration appears to go both ways, with Queen’s team already drawing attention as the competition approaches Cut Week. Kelly Clarkson, one of the show’s more experienced Coaches, suggested that Queen has assembled a formidable group of Artists.
“Queen’s team is the team that’s gonna compete the hardest this season,” Clarkson told cameras before The Voice headed to a commercial break. “She’s got a stacked team.”
