Sharon Osbourne says doctors warned late husband Ozzy that farewell concert ‘would kill him’

Sharon Osbourne has revealed that her late husband, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, defied the advice of six medical specialists to perform one final time with Black Sabbath, despite being warned that the concert could cost him his life.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Sharon opened up about the difficult decisions surrounding Ozzy’s farewell performance at the “Back to the Beginning” concert in Birmingham, England, on July 5, 2025. The legendary rocker died just 17 days later, aged 76, making the show an especially poignant final chapter in his extraordinary career.

According to Sharon, Ozzy had been hospitalized for a week after the couple returned to England. His medical team included six specialists who assessed his various health conditions, including problems affecting his heart and lungs, as well as Parkinson’s disease. After evaluating his condition, the doctors advised the family against allowing him to perform.

“They advised us not to do the show. They said it would kill him,” Sharon recalled.

However, Ozzy was determined to take the stage one last time. Despite understanding the potential consequences, he reportedly made it clear that cancelling the performance was not an option. Sharon remembered him explaining that if performing meant losing a few additional months of his life, he would rather spend that time doing what he loved.

The concert marked Ozzy’s first live performance in nearly seven years and brought together the original Black Sabbath lineup for a historic reunion. Held at Villa Park, the event attracted approximately 40,000 people and featured appearances by some of heavy metal’s biggest names.

Sharon described the experience as deeply emotional but ultimately beautiful. Rather than viewing her husband’s decision as a tragedy, she considers the performance a triumph that allowed him to say goodbye on his own terms.

In the days following the concert, Ozzy was reportedly overwhelmed with happiness, repeatedly telling his family that he had accomplished what he set out to do. Sharon said seeing him so joyful during his final days was an extraordinary gift.

Ozzy died on July 22, 2025. His death was attributed to a heart attack and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease listed as contributing factors.

Now, his final performance is set to reach cinema audiences through the documentary Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning, scheduled for release on October 28, 2026.

For Sharon, the concert remains a powerful reminder of her husband’s determination, passion for music, and refusal to let his final chapter be defined by illness.
