Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has shared the heartbreaking details of his final conversation with Ozzy Osbourne, revealing that the legendary rocker admitted he was feeling exhausted just hours before his death at the age of 76.
Speaking about the loss of his longtime bandmate, Iommi recalled how they remained in regular contact despite living on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Ozzy was based in California, while Iommi lived in England, but the two musicians continued checking in with each other every week or every other week, often discussing their health and sharing memories from their decades together in Black Sabbath.
Their final conversation took place on the night before Ozzy died on July 22, 2025. According to Iommi, the singer told him that he was feeling particularly tired and worn out. The guitarist responded by acknowledging that Ozzy had been under considerable pressure and stress, especially after the enormous effort required to prepare for his final concert.
“I really feel tired and really worn out,” Ozzy reportedly told him.
At the time, Iommi understood that his friend had been struggling physically, but he did not realize that their conversation would be their last. The following day, news of Ozzy’s death left him devastated and struggling to process what had happened so suddenly.
The revelation adds another emotional layer to the final chapter of Ozzy’s extraordinary career. Just 17 days before his death, the singer had reunited with Black Sabbath’s original lineup for the farewell concert “Back to the Beginning” at Villa Park in Birmingham, England.
Despite severe health problems, including Parkinson’s disease and emphysema, Ozzy was determined to perform one last time. The event brought together generations of rock musicians and thousands of fans to celebrate the band’s lasting influence on heavy metal.
Iommi had previously spoken about how much the performance meant to his bandmate, who was visibly emotional during the historic show. The guitarist also recalled their final in-person conversation after the concert, when Ozzy appeared pleased with how everything had gone.
For Iommi, the sudden loss was particularly difficult because he had spoken to Ozzy so recently. Their final exchange now stands as a poignant reminder of the friendship that endured through decades of music, success, personal struggles, and unforgettable performances.
More than a year after Ozzy’s death, memories of his final days continue to reveal just how determined he was to take the stage one last time and say goodbye on his own terms.
