Adam Lambert And John Legend Took On Culture Club’s “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” — Their Voices Were A Match Nobody Expected!

An unexpected musical collaboration can sometimes produce the most enjoyable moments, and that was certainly the case when Adam Lambert and John Legend joined forces for a rendition of Culture Club’s classic “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me.” The two powerhouse singers shared the song during an Instagram Live conversation in December 2022, giving fans a chance to hear their voices together in a much more relaxed setting.

The performance came as Adam was preparing to release High Drama, his 2023 covers album featuring reimagined versions of familiar hits from different eras. Among his selections was Culture Club’s 1982 classic, originally made famous by frontman Boy George. Rather than simply imitate the original, Adam approached the song with his own distinctive style, adding a darker, more atmospheric quality to its familiar melody.

Hearing him share the song with John Legend made the moment even more interesting. Adam’s theatrical vocal delivery and impressive range contrasted beautifully with John’s smooth, soulful tone. Their different approaches gave the familiar track a fresh character, while the casual Instagram Live setting allowed the musical chemistry to take center stage without the elaborate production of a television performance.

There was also a meaningful connection behind Adam’s choice of song. He had dedicated his cover to his friend Boy George, and the Culture Club frontman later showed his appreciation for Adam’s interpretation, describing it as “flawless.” Receiving that kind of praise from the original singer was certainly a special endorsement.

Although it was only a spontaneous social media performance rather than a full-scale concert duet, the collaboration offered a delightful glimpse of what happens when two accomplished vocalists share a musical moment. It also served as a reminder that Adam Lambert’s High Drama project was about more than revisiting familiar hits; it was about finding new ways to make beloved songs his own.
